It is no secret that South Africa has an energy crisis and as a country we need to pull together to sort out our problems. Fortunately there are many alternatives to Eskom, from generators to solar power. This site is intended as a public service to help South Africans understand solar so that they can make informed decisions. Solar is great but not the perfect solution for everyone. Please read up on wind power, generators and other power sources not covered in this website and then make the right decision for you.

Solar power is a useful and important source of renewable energy in South Africa. It has the potential to help address the country's energy challenges, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and create economic opportunities. As the cost of solar power continues to decline and technology improves, it is likely that solar power will play an even larger role in South Africa's energy future.

SA has abundant solar resources. The quality of solar radiation from the sun changes for different parts of SA but overall we are extremely lucky that we can get functioning solar systems for a fraction of the cost of solar in other countries.
